During Your Internship
After the Internship

The Internship and Work-Based Learning (WBL) programme immerses you in the day-to-day work environment of professionals within a company. It allows you to apply the theories and knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world assignments, gaining practical experience in an actual working environment.

 

Throughout your internship or WBL, you will develop professionalism through interactions with colleagues and supervisors, while acquiring valuable on-the-job training. This experience helps you become effective and productive in your future workplace much sooner, even before you graduate.

 

Internship and WBL are graduation requirements for Taylor’s University and Taylor's College homegrown programmes including diploma programmes. Depending on your programme of study, you must complete either one for the required duration. During your placement, you will be bound by the organisation’s policies and regulations.

 

If you miss or end your internship or WBL prematurely for reasons other than medical, accidental, occupational violence, legal, or familial issues, or if you are terminated for poor attendance or violation of company policies, you will be required to retake the internship or WBL in the following semester when the module is offered.

  • To support your future employment through practical experience, professional connections, and personal references.
  • To provide a platform for you to interact with professionals in your field of study.
  • To help you gain real-world experience under professional supervision.
  • To expose you to workplace practices and responsibilities, and develop your ability to evaluate information, explore options, and make sound decisions.

Important Internship Guidelines

Important Internship Guidelines

You are not allowed to:

  • Apply for internships at companies involved in alcohol, tobacco or gambling.
  • Intern at your family’s or relatives’ company, as this may reduce the value of your learning experience.
  • Intern at more than one company during the same placement.
  • Switch companies or exchange internship roles with friends without proper approval from both the organisation and the institution.
  • Fail to secure an internship placement. This is considered a failure of the module, and you will have to repeat it in the next available semester.

Pre-Application Stage

  • If you are eligible to go for the internship and Work Based Learning, you will receive an email and SMS blast from Career Services one semester in advance based on the namelist provided by the Faculty Office and verified by the Programme Director.
  • You are required to attend the physical or online Internship and Work-Based Learning preparatory workshops, actual date and time of the sessions will be advised by Career Services Centre. Attendance is compulsory.
  • Login to SEEDS to update and complete your profile. Key in your student ID and same password for the Campus Central Portal (refer to the user guide provided by Career Services).​​
Application Stage

Application Stage

  • Browse internship vacancies on SEEDS, job portals or directly on company websites before applying.
  • If applying through SEEDS, ensure your profile is complete and updated.
  • Apply to 3–4 companies (not ranked in order of preference) and monitor your progress through the 'Internship History' tab.
  • SEEDS is not the only platform — you can apply through other online job portals or company sites.
  • If applying outside of SEEDS, create your own resume and cover letter.
  • Send your application to 3–4 companies in the first round.
  • Be ready to receive phone calls or emails from companies for assessment or interviews. Check your inbox regularly.
  • If you don’t hear back within 7 working days, follow up with the company via email.
  • Prepare well for interviews — research the company, dress appropriately, and bring your documents. Arrive at least 10 minutes early.
  • Follow up again 7 working days after the interview.
  • If you’re unsuccessful, repeat the process and apply to another 3–4 companies.
  • Once you’ve received an offer, reply via email to confirm your acceptance.
  • You cannot withdraw after accepting or signing the offer.
  • If you receive multiple offers, you must decline the rest via a polite email — do this on the same day.

After Receiving the Internship Offer

  • Upload a complete copy of your Offer Letter (in English) and update your internship and Work-Based Learning placement details in SEEDS under ‘Internship’ → ‘My Placement’ no later than three weeks before your placement start date.
  • Once your details are updated in SEEDS, you may not change your internship or Work-Based Learning placement to another company unless you have obtained approval from your Programme Director and Head of School.
  • If a change is necessary, you must first inform the Career Services team and Programme Director before making any arrangements. Valid reasons must be provided, and any changes are subject to approval from the Programme Director and relevant Faculty Members.

On Your First Day & Workplace Conduct

  • On the first day of your internship or Work-Based Learning, arrive at least 10 minutes before the official office hours.
  • Complete the 'Report to Work' form on your first working day via SEEDS (My Placement). Career Services will send email reminders to all students.
  • Attend the company’s briefing/orientation and provide your company supervisor with the evaluation form and any other required documents for their signature.
  • Introduce your company supervisor to your academic/internship supervisor via email.
  • Demonstrate initiative in learning and ensure all assigned tasks are completed on time.
  • Maintain punctuality throughout your internship or industrial training. Any emergency or sick leave must be approved by your company supervisor.
  • Begin writing your internship/Work-Based Learning report and completing your logbook from your first working day.
During the Internship Period

During the Internship Period

  • Career Services or your internship supervisor may conduct a visit, depending on their schedule.
  • Submit the evaluation form to your company supervisor for performance assessment no later than three weeks before your internship or Work-Based Learning ends.
  • Keep your internship/Work-Based Learning report updated and prepare all relevant supporting documents for attachment in advance.
  • Complete the Internship Satisfaction Feedback form that will be sent to you by the Career Services team.
  • Complete the clearance process with the Human Resources department and return all company property (e.g., laptop, staff ID) in good condition before your last day.

Follow your School’s deadline to submit these documents:

  • Your internship report
  • Evaluation form
  • Any additional required documents

The internship/Work-Based Learning and other relevant documents must be submitted to your internship supervisor and Work-Based Learning.

 

Please refer to your Module Information Booklet (MIB) for further information on the report format and method of submission.
