Hi Taylorians! Are you facing barriers that is blocking your creative process? Need some skills to make things or some friends to make things with? Or maybe you don’t have the proper space to create things?
Come join the Maker’s Club and be part of the community of makers. A place for everyone to meet and collaborate with passionate and curious tinkerers. There is never a lack of interesting projects and people here to show you limitless possibilities. If you have a passion for innovating and creating with a do-it-yourself mentality, this is the club for you.
Taylor’s Maker's Club is both a place and a community for anyone who has a passion to tinker, create, learn and share. The club is focussed on nurturing mindsets for designing and fabricating and is closely supported by the Taylor’s Makerspace team of experts, providing you opportunities to learn, share and collaborate with the specialists. Members of the club can expect to work with various materials and power tools such as 3D printers, laser cutter and engraver, wood and metal work machines.
The club’s goal is to foster a community of makers, facilitate access to spaces and tools, create opportunities to build and hone skills, and encourage collaboration between clubs on university or personal projects that you are passionate about. The club is open to all types of making, with a focus on physical and digital fabrication through team work.
To find out more about Taylor's Makerspace:
Our first activity, the Maker’s club members collaborated to revamp the abandoned arcade machine in Makerspace. It is now fully functional and will be placed in the Student Life Centre for all to play for free!
We made a Game Boy for the first part of Taylor's Digital Open Day Livestream, 5th December 2020. It is a fully playable device, just like the original.
A cool feature of this RC Car is that we don't need a normal controller. We use Zoom’s Chat to control the car instead! Users join the Zoom call and type in the chat box to control the car. There is a camera attached to the car so users can see the first-person view of the car.
This initiative is in conjunction with Taylor's Robotic Club’s, Agent of Tech Club, Taylor's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) together with Taylor's Digital Marketing team. The idea was to develop a device for the B40 communities to help them enhance their online learning experience, as most of them don't have any devices.
"The first day I walked into the Taylor’s Makerspace, it was as if I walked into my dream! It really has all the tools and equipments you need to make anything. It’s vibrant environment and friendly as well as knowledgeable experts will never make you feel bored whenever you work on different projects."
"Taylor’s Makerspace is a great place to learn new skills, build new connections and to work on personal projects. The experts at the makerspace are very knowledgeable and helpful. Personally, Taylor’s Makerspace and the experts have supported me throughout my final year in the aspect of providing their resources, tools, knowledge and space for my Final Year Project. "
"The Taylor's Makerspace feels like my second home. The environment and people never fail to be fun, relaxing, and encouraging. I frequent this place often as working on my projects here honestly just feel therapeutic."
"I've always believed in a place where people can explore their artistic creativity, and Taylor's Maker’s Club provides an excellent opportunity for student to do so. Upon first entering the Makerspace, I was impressed by its fully working wood and metal workshop, laser cutting machine, 3D printer and even a functioning arcade machine."
"Taylor's Maker’s Club is a wonderful initiative filled with passionate, friendly individuals. They've truly showed me that anything is possible at this point, I was blown away when I heard that they've made their own arcade machine and even more so when I actually had a very decent experience playing it with another group member."
"When I joined the club, I did not expect much actually because it's pretty new. But the more I am involved with the club, it is actually pretty interesting as they advocate creativity and allow you to practicalize your imagination and at the same time uphold the value of not only to think of oneself but also of other people or even the environment. So, I guess that is what makes this club unique."
