The Taylor's Me.reka Makerspace is collaborating with local communities, makers and volunteers to produce much needed PPE equipment for our front-liners. As of April, over 20,000 faceshields, 21,000 replacements, 1,400 aerochambers and 50 isolation boxes have been provided to front-liners.
MAKE A DIFFERENCEThe FHMS team took up the initiative to produce hand sanitisers to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus. The sanitisers were produced in accordance to WHO-recommended formulations, sampled and subjected to tests according to the recommended protocol. Over 70 litres of hand sanitisers have been provided campus-wide.
A team of lecturers from the Taylor's School of Medicine and Computing & Engineering, designed and 3D-printed Hijab Friendly, reusable mask straps using the facilities at Taylor's. With more than a 1,000 faceshields and 1,500 mask straps being provided to 13 different hospitals so far, the team continues to produce mask straps for our front-liners to date.
The Social Textiles movement is a consolidation of production partners and makers, consisting of impact-focused individuals, organisations, and communities which aims to deliver PPEs to frontline organisations through a sustainable business model. This model would empower local communities by creating employment opportunities, especially in such economic times, creating engaging micro-economies that stimulate and ensure the sustainability of local organisations and social enterprises while maintaining transparency in product costing, and delivering fulfilment.
LEARN MORETaylor's Hostel residents produced 500 reusable sanitary pads from February to March under the LaunchPad Project and donated them to 250 refugee women and girls during the Movement Control Order.
Taylor's University Handball Club organised a CSR initiative called Taylor’s Hand (of Hope) - a Food Bank Project which collected cash and kind in order to help the underprivileged, those living alone, and those unable to afford daily necessities during the MCO. To date, they have provided one month’s provisions to 91 families.
The Postgraduate Student Council funded and distributed the PGSC Care Packages to local and international postgraduate students living alone. These consisted of face masks, hand sanitiser, a 2kg bag of rice, and a 500ml bottle of cooking oil. They provided these Care Packages to 55 students in need.
Taylor's CSR provides free online learning resources, daily necessities and also raised over RM60,000 to relief the B40 families affected by COVID-19. More beneficiaries are welcome!
Taylor's School of Education curated study materials for secondary school students in the B40 communities which were taught by Taylor's CSR team.
Taylor's Hostel got together to provide free lunch for students who stayed behind during the Restricted Movement Order.
Taylor's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences offered free languages and music lessons for the Taylorian community to upskill themselves during the Restricted Movement Order.
Taylor's School of Medicine came together to donate necessities from clocks, fans and air-conditioning urgently required by the healthcare facilities as a result of the expansion of spaces from COVID-19.
